How is the starting bid calculated?
Starting bid is a percentage of each item's fair-market value (40% by default, adjustable from 10% to 90%). It's computed the same way for every item, rounded to the nearest whole dollar.
What's the bid increment for?
It's the minimum amount each new bid must raise the previous one by, printed right on the sheet so bidders don't have to guess. Choose a percentage of value or a flat dollar amount — either way, every item uses the same rule.
Do I have to use a buy-it-now price?
No — it's off by default. Many silent auctions don't use one at all. Turn it on if you want a price that lets a bidder skip the bidding and win an item instantly.
Is this gambling advice?
No. A silent auction is a sale to the highest bidder, not a game of chance — this tool only computes bid-sheet numbers from the values you enter.
Does this work for a small auction (a handful of items)?
Yes — anywhere from 1 to 100 items works the same way; the packet just has fewer bid sheets and a shorter master list.
